History of Ecommerce

Online Shopping’s Earliest High Notes:

1969 — CompuServe is founded as an immediate front runner in creating online services such as electronic mail and online live chat services. CompuServe was later acquired by AOL in 1998.

1979 — Michael Aldrich invents online shopping. This is ecommerce in its earliest form. He creates a system that processes transactions between consumers and businesses or from business to business. He modifies a television and connects it to a transaction processing computer using a telephone line. Ecommerce has come a long way since Aldrich’s processing machine, but this is likely just the beginning of a brave new world of global commerce and connection.
