How To Remove the “Powered by Shopify” Footer from Your Online Store Pages

4 min read

Shopify is one of the most widely used ecommerce platforms on the internet. There are plenty of reasons for this, as Shopify has a lot to offer to its users.

But there is one feature that not every user wants displayed on their webpage. That is the “Powered by Shopify” message which can be found in the footer of most Shopify client websites.

For some website owners, this message simply disrupts the aesthetics of the page. For others, it’s an irritating nuisance.

The good news is that the “Powered by Shopify” message is not locked in place. While it does appear automatically on most pages, it can be removed. Here is a quick guide on how to remove “Powered by Shopify” at the bottom of your online store page.

How to Remove “Powered by Shopify” Footer

The process of how to delete “Powered by Shopify” from your page has several steps but is not too complicated.

  1. The first step is to access your Shopify store admin panel. Go to “Online Store”, and select “Themes”.
  2. Locate the theme you wish to edit and click the ellipsis/three dots (“…”) button, and select “Edit default theme content”.
  3. At the top of the “Theme Content” page, you will see a search bar for filtered items. Search the word “powered” using this toolbar, and it will display every “Powered by Shopify” footer on your website.
  4. Scroll down to the “Powered by Shopify” text bar, and delete the text.
  5. Click “Save”

This process should be all you need in order to learn how to remove the “Powered by Shopify” footer. Be sure to test it out by checking a few pages on your online store to see if the footer has been removed.

If the “Powered by Shopify” footer remains on some pages, you may need to edit the theme code manually. It is always recommended that you save a copy of your theme code before making any edits.

How to Get Rid of “Powered by Shopify” By Editing Theme Code

If you must edit the theme code to remove the footer, the first steps are the same, but the subsequent steps are a bit more complicated.

  1. Access the online store admin panel and select “Themes”
  2. Locate the ellipsis/three dots button. This time, rather than selecting “Edit default theme content”, select “Edit code”.
  3. On the code page, use “Ctrl + F” (on a PC) or “Command + F” (on a Mac) and search for the word “Powered”. This will highlight the “powered by link” code for that theme.
  4. Delete this code, and click Save at the top of the page.

This should be everything you need in order to know how to take off the “Powered by Shopify” tag on your online store. If editing the code manually does not work, contact Shopify customer support to seek help directly.
